Police in New Brunswick say human remains found in Saint John are those of a 24-year-old man who disappeared five years ago.

Scott Arthur Taylor of Rothesay was last seen in the city on Dec. 2, 2011, and was reported missing by his family days later.

Police say remains discovered in Saint John on May 7 have been confirmed to be Taylor's following an autopsy and they are treating the death as suspicious.

They say they were found by a mountain biker in a wooded area off Old Black River Road near Bayside Drive extension.

RCMP are working with Saint John and Kennebecasis police forces to investigate his death, which they believe occurred soon after his disappearance.
