The RCMP in Prince Edward Island are investigating after a Canada Post office was ransacked and mail was stolen.

Police say they were called to the post office in York on Route 25 on Monday at around 7 a.m. after a safe containing cash, collector coins, blank money orders and registered mail was taken.

Officers say they believe the post office was broken into over the weekend.

Investigators say this is the second break-in to an post office in P.E.I. in a week and police are urging the public to come forward with any information.
