Police in Moncton, N.B., have released the name and picture of a man they believed is armed with a gun in the west end of the city, and who may pose a hazard to himself.

RCMP Const. Jullie Rogers-Marsh says police are concerned about the safety and well-being of 20-year-old Travis Squires.

Police say they responded around 5:30 a.m. to a home on Shamrock Avenue where reports suggested a man was doing damage in the house and had assaulted another man.

They say a witness saw the man go into a shed where a firearm had been stored.

Codiac RCMP blocked off a section of the Salisbury Road, but it was re-opened by mid-afternoon.

Residents of the Rosewood Trailer Park are asked to stay inside their homes as a precaution, and police are going door-to-door seeking information on Squires' whereabouts.

Anyone with information is asked to call the RCMP.
