RCMP in southwestern Nova Scotia are investigating the drowning of a 65-year-old man.

Police say the man set out on a canoe trip on the Clyde River around 2.p.m. Friday.

A search was mounted after he failed to return to his home in the Happy Valley Road area of Upper Clyde more than seven hours later.

The man's body was found in the water shortly after midnight and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say his canoe was found early Saturday.

The Mounties say they do not suspect foul play.
