Suncor Energy (TSX:SU) is investigating a methanol leak from a subsea drill centre in the Terra Nova field off Newfoundland and Labrador earlier this week.

A statement from the Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Board says an estimated 3,000 litres of methanol was released into the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday.

The board says methanol pumping was stopped once the leak was detected and a remotely operated vehicle identified a subsea methanol line as the source.

The board is also reviewing the incident.
