An eight-year-old boy who was hit by a commercial truck in British Columbia's Fraser Valley has died.

Mounties in Hope, B.C, say the accident happened just after noon on Wednesday.

Paramedics took the boy, who was suffering from life-threatening injuries, to hospital, where police say he died.

The accident shut down a street in the community about 150 kilometres east of Vancouver.

Police, the coroners service and commercial vehicle-safety investigators have been examining the scene.

Mounties say the driver has been co-operating with investigators and officials from victim services have been assisting the boy's family.
