A Vancouver Island man accused of having links to organized crime has been charged with 13 criminal offences in connection with the seizure of drugs and weapons.

Thirty-two-year-old Bryce McDonald was arrested last December in Courtenay.

Police say that during a month-long investigation, McDonald was believed to be in contravention of regulations involving his firearms licence.

They say about six grams of crack cocaine, equipment believed to be used for the sale of drugs and a machete were seized when McDonald was taken into custody.

Three search warrants netted 19 firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, firearms parts, a Taser, a metal baton and brass knuckles.

McDonald's next court appearance is scheduled for July 10.
