Nanaimo RCMP arrested a 41-year-old man after an alleged sexual assault on a 30-year-old woman.

Police say officers were called to a home after a report that a woman, who works as a sex trade worker, was physically and sexually assaulted by a customer for two hours.

Police found the woman bruised and in distress, and she was transported to hospital where staff treated and released her.

With the help of the victim, officers found and arrested a suspect.

Police released the man after he promised to avoid contact with the victim and appear in Nanaimo provincial court on Sept. 23.

RCMP are recommending a charge of sexual assault against the man, and will not release his name until Crown approves the charge.
