One person is dead after a shooting in Port Coquitlam.

RCMP responded just after 9 p.m. Friday (to the area of the 2100-block of Rindall Avenue) after reports of shots fired.

Mounties found one person suffering from gunshot wounds and despite the efforts of paramedics, the victim succumbed to their injuries.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says it has taken over the investigation.

Sgt. Stephanie Ashton says the investigation is in the very early stages, but it is believed that the shooting is related to criminal activity.

She is asking for anyone with information to come forward to police.
