Bell has made another promise to improve communication services in Manitoba if its proposed purchase of Manitoba Telecom Services is approved by regulators.
The company says it plans to introduce its Gigabit Fibe Internet service, which offers download speeds exponentially faster than current providers in the province.
Bell (TSX:BCE) is also promising high-speed LTE-advanced technology for wireless phones, starting in central Winnipeg.
Bell has already said it will improve existing cellphone coverage in rural Manitoba and Internet service in the north.
Some consumer groups and Manitoba's Opposition New Democrats are worried prices will rise sharply if the purchase goes through.
Premier Brian Pallister has said consumers may end up paying more but will be getting much better service.
