Dorel Industries Inc. (TSX:DII.B) is creating a new organizational unit in the capital of Chile as part of its South American growth strategy.
Dorel Sports Chile SA, based in Santiago, will lead all sales, marketing, distribution and customer service for the Quebec-based company's bicycle business in Chile and Peru.
The Montreal-based consumer products company — a leading supplier of infant car seats, home furnishings for children and bicycles — has been growing its presence in South America for several years.
Dorel announced Wednesday, along with the creation of Dorel Sports Chile, that it acquired the assets of Intercycles, a Santiago-based bicycle retailer and long-time partner. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
The company's bicycle brands include Cannondale, GT, Schwinn as well as Caloi — a brand that's well-established in Brazil.
