Five things to watch this week in Canadian business:

Economy: Statistics Canada releases the wholesale trade figures for September on Monday followed by retail sales figures for September on Tuesday. The data will help fill out the picture about how the economy fared in the third quarter.

Earnings: The earnings season frenzy has settled down — but that doesn't mean there aren't big-name companies to look out for. Convenience store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard and bakery goods and grocery giant George Weston both release their latest quarterly results Tuesday.

Amaya: A securities tribunal in Quebec will resume hearings Wednesday into allegations that David Baazov, the former CEO of Montreal-based gaming company Amaya, was involved in insider trading. Baazov has maintained his innocence.

Ontario Cap and Trade: The fiscal impact of Ontario's cap and trade program will be the focus of a report to be released Wednesday by the province's temporary financial accountability officer. The Liberal government has predicted the program will add about $5 a month to home heating bills and four cents a litre to gas prices when it takes effect next year.

Talking Climate Change: Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna will speak Friday about the government's strategy to combat climate change before the Toronto Region Board of Trade. A key component of that plan is a carbon tax, effective 2018.
