Fox News says it has signed its chief political anchor, Bret Baier, to a new multi-year contract just as a new political season is beginning.

Baier is due to moderate Fox's Aug. 6 debate involving 10 of the Republican presidential candidates with Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace. He co-anchored coverage of big political nights in 2012 with Kelly, a role he is expected to fill again.

Baier has anchored Fox's 6 p.m. weeknight newscast from Washington since 2009.

Terms of the new deal, including its length, were not released Wednesday.
