Stocks closed higher Tuesday as traders welcome positive earnings news from Coca-Cola and other companies. Signs that Greece might be willing to broker a deal with its creditors also gave the market a boost.

On Tuesday:

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 139.55 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 17,868.76

The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 21.85 points, or 1.1 per cent, to 2,068.59.

The Nasdaq composite climbed 61.63 points, or 1.3 per cent, to 4,787.64.

For the week:

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 44.47 points, or 0.3 per cent.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 13.12 points, or 0.6 per cent.

The Nasdaq composite climbed 43.25 points, or 0.9 per cent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 45.69 points, or 0.3 per cent.

The S&P 500 index is up 9.69 points, or 0.5 per cent.

The Nasdaq is up 51.59 points, or 1.1 per cent.
