The U.S. stock market edged higher on Tuesday, nudging the Dow Jones industrial average and Standard & Poor's 500 index to new highs. Investors cheered the latest news on interest rates, Greece and corporate earnings.

On Tuesday:

The Dow rose 92.35 points, or 0.5 per cent, to 18,209.19.

The S&P 500 index added 5.82 points, or 0.3 per cent, to 2,115.48.

The Nasdaq composite gained 7.15 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 4,968.12.

For the week:

The Dow is up 68.75 points, or 0.4 per cent.

The S&P 500 index is up 5.18 points, or 0.3 per cent.

The Nasdaq has gained 12.16 points, or 0.3 per cent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 386.12 points, or 2.2 per cent.

The S&P 500 index is up 56.58 points, or 2.8 per cent.

The Nasdaq is up 232.07 points, or 4.9 per cent.
