Stocks plunged again Tuesday, continuing a rocky ride for Wall Street, after an economic report out of China rekindled fears that the world's second-largest economy is slowing more than previously anticipated.

For the day:

The Dow fell 469.68 points, or 2.8 per cent, to 16,058.35.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 58.33 points, or 3 per cent, to 1,913.85.

The Nasdaq composite lost 140.40 points, or 2.9 per cent, to 4,636.10.

For the week:

The Dow is down 584.66 points, or 3.5 per cent.

The S&P 500 has lost 75.02 points, or 3.8 per cent.

The Nasdaq is down 192.22 points, or 4 per cent.

For the year:

The Dow is down 1,764.72 points, or 9.9 per cent.

The S&P 500 index is down 145.05 points, or 7.1 per cent.

The Nasdaq is down 99.95 points, or 2.1 per cent.
