The Dow Jones industrial average eked out another record high close on Wednesday, while the other major stock indexes ended lower. Investors had their eye on the latest batch of corporate earnings, as well as another day of testimony from Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen.

On Wednesday:

The Dow rose 15.38 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 18,224.57.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 1.62 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 2,113.86.

The Nasdaq composite dipped 0.99 point, or 0.02 per cent, to 4,967.14.

For the week:

The Dow is up 84.13 points, or 0.5 per cent.

The S&P 500 index is up 3.56 points, or 0.2 per cent.

The Nasdaq has gained 11.17 points, or 0.2 per cent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 401.50 points, or 2.3 per cent.

The S&P 500 index is up 54.96 points, or 2.7 per cent.

The Nasdaq is up 231.08 points, or 4.9 per cent.
