A senior bureaucrat at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions has been named the next head of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada.

Andrew Kriegler, OSFI's deputy superintendent responsible for the supervision of more than 400 federally regulated financial institutions, will take over as IIROC's president and chief executive on Nov. 1.

He replaces Susan Wolburgh Jenah who announced earlier this year that she would step down from the job.

IIROC oversees investment dealers and trading activity on debt and equity markets.

Kriegler joined OSFI in February 2013 as an assistant superintendent.

Prior to working at the federal banking and pension regulator, he was senior vice-president and treasurer at CIBC and chief human resources officer at Moody's.

Kriegler also worked at Canada Trust and BMO Nesbitt Burns.
