Rep. Steve Chabot will become the new chairman of the House Small Business Committee when the 114th Congress takes office In January.

The Ohio Republican has served on the committee for 18 years, his entire time in Congress. He represents Ohio's First Congressional District, which includes Cincinnati. During the current Congress, he has been a member of the Subcommittee on Investigations, Oversight and Regulations and the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access.

The Small Business Committee oversees the Small Business Administration and serves as an advocate for small businesses in Congress and with government agencies on matters including taxes, regulations and federal contracts.

Chabot has co-sponsored legislation in the current Congress to simplify the SBA loan process and financial reporting requirements for small companies. He has also co-sponsored a bill that would require the Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency to withdraw a controversial clean water regulation.

He is an attorney and ran a law firm before being elected to Congress.

Chabot will succeed Sam Graves, R-Mo., who is giving up the chair of the committee because of term limits. Graves has led the committee since 2011.
