U.S. stocks are opening higher, breaking a weeklong slump.
Johnson Controls jumped 4 per cent early Wednesday after the company said it was considering a sale of its automotive business.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 101 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 17,866. The Dow turned positive for the year.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 12 points, or 0.6 per cent, to 2,092. The Nasdaq composite rose 21 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 5,035.
Energy stocks rose more than the rest of the market as the price of oil climbed again. Chevron rose the most in the Dow.
Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose as high as 2.49 per cent, its highest level of the year.
