The Stratford Festival is extending its 2014 season for five productions.

"King Lear" and "Crazy for You" will run for an extra week in October, while "King John," "Mother Courage and Her Children" and "Antony and Cleopatra" will run for an additional week in September.

Tickets for the additional performances go on sale July 12.

"The response to the 2014 season has been extraordinary," festival executive director Anita Gaffney said in a statement. "Sales for 'King Lear' and 'Crazy for You' have been through the roof since they opened to such enthusiastic reviews at the end of May."

"King Lear" in particular has enjoyed great critical success, with Chicago Tribune critic Chris Jones describing Antoni Cimolino's production as "deeply compassionate" and "heart-wrenching," and the Globe and Mail's J. Kelly Nestruck calling Colm Feore's portrayal of Lear "unforgettable."

The internationally recognized festival featuring classical theatre is held in Stratford, Ont., and runs from April through October.
