An RCMP officer accused of leaving his unsecured service pistol in a northern Manitoba hotel room while he was on duty has been charged.
The Independent Investigation Unit, the province's police watchdog, says it was called in after a gun was left behind in mid-August when the Mountie checked out of the hotel.
The unit says the review led to the decision to lay a criminal charge.
Const. Geremy Newbury was charged on Friday with careless storage of a firearm.
He is to appear in Flin Flon provincial court on Feb 1.
The unit is also looking into what may have led to the injury of a male suspect during an arrest by Winnipeg police on Sunday.
Police say officers were responding to a break and enter when a 25-year-old suspect resisted arrest and force was used to take him into custody.
The man was hospitalized with a broken jaw and other fractures.
