A man convicted of abducting his children and fleeing to Mexico will spend more time behind bars on unrelated sexual assault charges.

Kevin Maryk, 45, pleaded guilty earlier this year to repeatedly sexually assaulting a woman over a period of about a year starting in 2004.

As part of a joint recommendation betweenM his lawyer and Crown attorneys, Maryk was sentenced Tuesday morning to four years in prison with two years credit for time already served.

Maryk first made headlines after taking off to Mexico with his two children in 2008.

He kept them hidden there for years, before police finally found them in a townhouse in Guadalajara 2012.

In June 2014, he pleaded guilty to two counts of abduction and was sentenced to four years in prison, but with credit for time already served, his prison was reduced to 374 days.
