A 10-year-old boy is dead in western Manitoba after he was thrown from an ATV he was riding.

RCMP say the child was not wearing a helmet.

He was out riding Sunday on private property in the RM of Shellmouth-Boulton when he lost control of the vehicle.

He later died of his injuries in hospital.

RCMP say the boy's inexperience and the fact that we wasn't wearing a helmet were factors in his death.

Police continue to investigate.
