The bloom is in danger of coming off a popular annual flower festival in western Manitoba after the departure of several members of the event's board.

Ten people oversaw the 18th edition of the Neepawa Lily Festival in July, but six have since retired.

Administrator and CEO Audrey Heffell says a four-person board is far short of the number needed to plan and run the festival, which attracts thousands of people to the town that proclaims itself the lily capital of the world.

Heffell says if they can't find 10 more people — particularly younger residents — who are willing to join them by the time of their annual meeting in November, it's possible this past summer's event could be their last.

She says the town and festival are known worldwide and it would be sad for the community if it doesn't continue.

A meeting to discuss the issue had been scheduled for Monday night. (CKLQ)
