A woman is facing charges following the death of her three-month-old daughter in northern Manitoba.

RCMP in Thompson say officers who were called to a home on Sunday found the infant in distress.

Emergency personnel tried to provide medical care and transported the baby to hospital, where she died.

Police say a one-year-old boy found in the home was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Julienne Towers, who is 22, is charged with criminal negligence causing death, failure to provide the necessaries of life and two counts of abandoning a child.

Towers is in custody and is to appear in Thompson provincial court on Thursday.
