A unit that reviews police actions in Manitoba is looking into an arrest in which a man's collarbone was broken.

The Independent Investigation Unit says RCMP officers spotted a car driving erratically in Portage la Prairie on Tuesday and tried to pull it over.

The car turned into a ditch and three occupants took off on foot.

The unit says a constable was able to tackle and handcuff one of them.

The man complained of feeling unwell and an X-ray at the Portage hospital showed the broken collarbone.

The investigation unit was called in because the arrest involved a serious injury.
