The trial of a 48-year-old man accused of having an affair with his children's babysitter has begun in Winnipeg.

The man is charged with child exploitation.

Court was told Monday that the 17-year-old girl was originally hired to be a professional assistant to the man's wife but later became the babysitter to the couple's children.

She told police the man coerced her into a sexual relationship that started with sexual conversations while they were watching television, and later escalated to meetings at the house and in his truck.

In the police interview she told a detective that "at first he was pushing her, then it became kind of normal."

She also said he viewed the man as a father figure before the alleged sexual relationship began.
