On Iraq: Prime Minister Stephen Harper said the United States has asked Canada for more help in the fight against radical Islamists in Iraq and Syria and the cabinet will review the request.

On maternal and child health: Canada pledged $200 million (flowing from a previously announced $3.5 billion) towards a new US$4 billion international fund to prevent maternal and newborn deaths.

On climate change: Environment Minister Aglukkaq said Canada will match American vehicle-emissions standards and curb the use of hydrofluorocarbon coolants.

On First Nations: The absence of a senior minister at the UN's World Conference on Indigenous Peoples angered many First Nations leaders who considered Canada's lack of presence an international embarrassment.

On Canada's books: Harper says last year's federal deficit numbers will have to be revised for the better, but offered few details.
