The federal government has named a new chief justice of the Federal Court of Appeal.

Justice Marc Noel will take over from Pierre Blais, who retired in June.

Noel has served on the federal appeal court for more than a decade.

He was first appointed to the bench as a federal court judge in 1992 and was later elevated to the federal appeal court.
