The Egyptian gallery at the Detroit Institute of Arts is being named the "Founders Junior Council Gallery" following a $1 million pledge from the museum's young professionals auxiliary.
The museum recently announced the gift, which it says is the largest by the Founders Junior Council and will boost the museum's operating endowment. Since it started more than 50 years ago, the Founders Junior Council has given nearly $4 million to the museum.
DIA Director Salvador Salort-Pons says in a statement the council "has been a philanthropic trendsetter whose members understand how crucial it is to give to the DIA's operating endowment in order to achieve the museum's permanent financial stability."
The Founders Junior Council's board of directors will be recognized at a dedication event in July.
