Veering from tradition for the second straight year, the International Luge Federation has scheduled three World Cup events in North America in the upcoming season.

Mount Van Hoevenberg outside Lake Placid will host a weekend series Dec. 2-3, followed by events at Whistler, British Columbia, and Park City, Utah prior to Christmas before the circuit returns to Europe.

It promises to be a boon for USA Luge, which is coming off a stellar season. American sliders won a team-record 18 medals on the World Cup circuit last winter, the first time in World Cup history that three events were held in North America.

Whistler replaces Calgary on the 2016-17 schedule.
