Police say a 16-year-old girl who struck a tree while skiing at a resort in Collingwood, Ont., has died.

Ontario's provincial police say the girl, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, died on Wednesday.

An official with the Blue Mountain ski resort says the teen hit the tree on an intermediate run around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Paul Pinchbeck, of the Blue Mountain resort, says the girl was on the hill for a ski race, but wasn't racing at the time and the crash happened on the edge of the run along the treeline.

Pinchbeck says the teen was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and was later airlifted to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto.

He says the girl is the fourth person to die at the resort in the last four years.
