An arbitrator has awarded IT company CGI $26.9 million in a dispute against eHealth Ontario over a cancelled contract for a diabetes registry.
Details of the arbitration by former Ontario judge Warren Winkler were sparse _ eHealth refused to provide a copy of the decision, citing privacy concerns.
In 2012, eHealth had cancelled a $46.2 million, six-year deal that was signed in 2010 to design, build and maintain the registry to better monitor diabetes patients.
At the time, then Health Minister Deb Matthews said she supported the decision to cancel the contract, noting it protected taxpayers from $46.2-million in spending.
eHealth says the arbitrator's decision represents fair compensation for CGI's two years of work on the unfinished registry.
Michael Roach, CGI's president and CEO, says he is pleased with the decision.
