The body of a missing canoeist has been recovered from the French River south of Sudbury.

Police say 40-year-old Arpad Deak of Hungary was one of three people in a canoe that tipped over Sunday at Recollet Falls in French River Provincial Park.

The canoeists — two men and a 10-year-old boy — were trying to negotiate the quick-moving water when the canoe went over, throwing all three into the river.

One of the men and the boy — both of whom were wearing life-jackets — were pulled from the water by other people in the area.

Police say Deak's body was found Monday about 75 metres west of the falls.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled.
