One person has been killed in a fiery crash that closed the Highway 401 in both directions near Gananoque, Ont.

Provincial police say a westbound tractor-trailer struck a stationary safety truck at about 5:30 Wednesday morning.

Several local fire departments responded, and battled a fire in the tractor-trailer, which had burst into flames.

The driver and lone occupant of the truck was fatally injured.

The eastbound lanes opened around noon, while police said is was unknown when the westbound lanes would reopen.
