A former Toronto crossing guard is facing a sexual assault charge in connection with an alleged incident involving a teenaged girl.

It's alleged that in January 2008, a crossing guard sexually assaulted a girl, who was 17 years old at the time.

Police say the crossing guard was assigned to an intersection in the city's northeast (in the area of Midland Avenue and Huntingwood Drive).

Biagio Valerio, 78, is charged with one count of sexual assault.

He's scheduled to appear in court on April 21.

Police say they believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers.
