Hamilton police say they are looking for three suspects after a 47-year-old woman was repeatedly stabbed in her apartment.

The incident happened at around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, when police say a woman and two men went to the apartment (on Elgin Street) and knocked on the door.

It's alleged that when the door was opened the three suspects forced their way inside and found the female victim inside one of the rooms.

Police say the two women became engaged in an argument, with the female suspect brandishing a knife, and that the suspect then stabbed the victim a number of times.

It's alleged the two male suspects prevented other people in the apartment from coming to the aid of the victim, and police say all three suspects then fled on foot.

Police and EMS responded and the victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim and her attacker are known to each other and police say they believe the incident to be a targeted attack. Detectives are continuing to investigate.
