A 23-year-old man is facing a murder charge in the death of his grandmother, who police say was found dead in an apartment north of Toronto over the weekend.

Police say officers began investigating after an injured man walked into a hospital in Richmond Hill early Saturday morning.

They say investigators received information that led them to an apartment, where they found the body of 71-year-old Herma Parkes.

Police say Parkes' cause of death has been identified but will not be released.

Her grandson, Cameron Alexander Mossaddad, of Waterloo, is charged with second-degree murder.

Police say he is due in court Wednesday.
