Ottawa police have charged a man after a dispute on Friday where it's alleged that a fake firearm was pointed at a woman.

Police say a woman went to her boss's home to pick up some money but an argument broke out.

Police say the boss brought out a gun, pointed it at the woman's head and pulled the trigger.

The weapon did not fire and the man went inside his home and locked the door.

Police say investigators have determined the gun only could fire blanks.

A suspect, 25-year-old Konrad Miarecki, faces a number of charges including using an imitation firearm to commit an indictable offence, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and assault with a weapon.

He made his first appearance in court on Saturday to face the allegations.
