A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman in Sioux Lookout in northwestern Ontario.

Provincial police say officers and paramedics responded to a call Tuesday about a female in medical distress and when they arrived, they found a woman who did not respond to treatment.

Deidre Patayash, 29, of Weagamow (Round Lake) First Nation, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for Thursday in Toronto.

Alvin Ash, 32, of Cat Lake First Nation has been charged with assault in connection with the incident, which police say is still under investigation.

Police say Ash remains in custody and is to appear in Sioux Lookout Court on Friday.
