Police say a man has been hospitalized with a serious head injury after being struck by a vehicle that took off following a confrontation in Oshawa, Ont.

Durham region police say there was an altercation around 2 a.m. Thursday (on Quebec Street) between the SUV's occupants and a group of people.

They say the vehicle took off but returned a short time later as the confrontation continued.

Police say it then accelerated away again, striking a 51-year-old man and sending him to hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

The suspect vehicle was tracked to a home in Courtice and has been seized by police.
