A man is dead following a crash on Highway 401 just east of London, Ont., involving a car and a transport truck.

Emergency responders were called to the scene in the eastbound lanes of the 401 (just past Elgin Road near Dorchester) at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

Provincial police Const. Laurie Houghton says a car driven by a London man in his 50s ran into the back of a transport truck that was parked on the right shoulder.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until family members are notified.

The driver of the transport truck was not injured.

Two lanes of the highway were closed (at Elgin Road) for about five hours, but have since reopened.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
