York Regional Police say a 20-year-old Markham, Ont., man is facing numerous charges relating to juvenile prostitution following an alleged assault on a girl.

Police say officers went to a condominium building in Markham on Sunday to investigate reports of an injured girl.

Officers say they found a 17-year-old girl hiding behind the security desk, suffering from obvious injuries, and she was taken to hospital for treatment.

A man was arrested in the building and investigators allege he had been controlling the girl and exploiting her as a juvenile prostitute.

Edwin Jack is facing charges that include four counts of uttering death threats, trafficking in persons under 18, assault, aggravated assault, sexual assault and unspecified drug trafficking offences.

Investigators say they believe there may be further alleged victims who have not come forward to police, and say the accused is believed to have been active in the London, Ont., area.
