Provincial police say a truck driver has been charged with careless driving in connection with a multi-vehicle crash near London, Ont.

The outside and middle lanes of westbound Highway 401 (west of Dorchester Road) were closed for about 1 1/2 hours after the collision around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say a pickup truck had merged from an on-ramp onto the highway and was travelling westbound in the outside lane when it was struck from behind by a box truck travelling westbound.

The initial collision caused the pickup to strike the rear of a transport truck ahead of it.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 34-year-old man from Thames Centre, was taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, while the other two drivers were not injured.

The careless driving charge was laid against the driver of the box truck, a 43-year-old Toronto man, as a result of the police investigation.
