Provincial police say they've wrapped up an investigation into an incident at a house party and no charges will be laid against Cobourg Cougar players.

Police investigated a Twitter post in March, allegedly made during the party in Bewdley, Ont., that was attended by people between the ages of 16 and 18.

Members of the Cobourg Cougars hockey team were under investigation related to a tweet using the hashtag #consentisoverrated.

The Cougars said Sunday in a release that nobody affiliated with the Ontario Junior Hockey League team was responsible for the tweet.

The account it allegedly came from has been deleted.

Counsel for the Cobourg Cougars said in an email that the OPP have made it clear the hockey club itself was never under investigation.

Note to readers: This story clarifies that OPP did not refer to the Cobourg Cougar hockey club in its decision not to lay charges.
