Police have laid 188 criminal charges against a North Bay man in relation to a variety of alleged Internet child exploitation offences and child sexual assaults.

It's alleged dozens of young girls from the North Bay area were lured over the Internet, sexually assaulted and engaged in child prostitution.

John Chapados has been charged with 188 criminal counts, including luring a child, procuring juvenile prostitution, making child pornography, possessing child pornography, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and trafficking in a controlled substance.

The investigation began in 2013 and resulted in a number of charges at the time in November.

Five additional victims have since been identified while another 41 victims have been identified as having received electronic Internet communication for sexual purposes from June to October 2013.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
