Police are searching for a suspect after a two-year-old boy was killed in a hit-and-run south of Montreal Saturday morning.

The incident occurred in Saint-Constant, on Montreal's South Shore.

Police say they believe the child escaped his parents' attention and got out of the backyard where he'd been playing.

He was found unconscious on the street and later declared dead in hospital.

The boy's mother and another family member were also taken to hospital and treated for shock.

Police say they don't yet have a description of the driver, who left the scene.
