Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal collision in Mississauga, Ont., that killed a mother and injured her 9-year-old son.

Peel region police say the 37-year-old woman and her child were crossing the street Friday evening (at Cawthra Road south of Burnhamthorpe Road) when they were struck.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the boy was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
