Ontario's police watchdog has identified a man fatally shot by police in the emergency room at a hospital in Guelph, Ont., last week.

The Special Investigations Unit says 36-year-old Brandon Scott Duncan died after an "interaction" with Guelph police officers at Guelph General Hospital.

The agency says two officers discharged their firearms and Duncan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Guelph police say they are co-operating with the SIU investigation.

The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
